Did Ninja Theory shoot themselves in the foot?

Didn't Sony have to bring in SSM to help finish Heavenly Sword, and Capcom helped with the development of DmC?  Between the quality and the sales of all their titles it seems like if anything Sony dodged a bullet by not continuing the relationship.
