To be perfectly honest I wasn't expecting much at first. But the story quickly got really interesting. I thought a voiceless lead would be a burden but it actually did not hurt the story at all, and I think it actually helps the player feel the heavy and heart-wrenching choices Ludger is forced to make as the story moves along. He ended up as an amazing lead without speaking a single word (outside the battlefield). The soundtrack was filled with wonderfully composed tracks. The battle system was also greatly refined and an absolute joy to play.
I'd say Xillia 2 has definitely exceeded Vesperia as my favorite Tales game, and better than Xillia 1 by a long way. The story was absolutely moving towards the end and so well written, yet so heavy. It's the only video game that has actually moved me to tears. The true ending was just beautiful.
For the longest time Final Fantasy Tactics stood unopposed as the greatest game story and greatest game of all time in my eyes, but Xillia 2 has definitely challenged that.
