It didn't have any leap over the original Xbox/PS2

So? If all our grand children are physically and/or mentally inferior- or "just" equal to us they are still part of the newer generations.

What does that have to do with anything? In the gaming industry next gen means more power and the Wii didn't have that. That's just my opinion.

the fact that Nintendo provided us with a new way of play is IMO more than enough to be considered next gen.

in my opinion a new generation of gaming means games can be developed which weren't possible on the previous platform. And I know a lot of Wii games couldn't be played on the gamecube, ps2 or xbox... same goes to the Wii U since the gamepad has new ways to play games.

a definition of a new generation isn't just relying on more power or better visuals but the overall experience as a whole.

Yes that's true, to a degree but it's the same bullshit that the Wii promotors used at the beginning of last gen and it didn't go too well if memory serves me correctly, how about measuing some things we can actually measure now, like the genuine likelyhood of those features of the Wii-U contributing to it being it's own generation, and not the turkey that the Wii became in the 2nd half of it's lifetime. Some would say from the beginning but there were some classic first party games that everyone loves, myself included. - none of which may I add were particularly made any better thanks to the Wiimote. (Some even made worse, hell Zelda!)

No need to stick your hand in the fire twice mate with comments like the bolded one. That's the problem these days, too much talk of potential and expectations, how many times have we been let down? How many times have these promises of innovation not come to fruition? Pretty much every time!

The Wiimote wasn't invented to innovate, it was invented to sell Wiis, just like Kinect, and to a lesser degree PS Move, shame about PS Move as it's genuinely a good bit of kit that actually works well doesn't try to be too far ahead of it's time and if developers used the damn as an integral feature like Heavy Rain we could have some real fun.
