blu ray didnt completely win because of ps3, it was mostly due to movie makeers or w/e dropping hd dvd. blu ray cannot help the ps3 ship millions of consoles, as dvd helped the ps2 ship millions of consoles. dvd was something new, and it was a cd. people will continue to use dvd over blu ray and hd dvd, because most people dont give a hoot whether the movie they watch is in hi def. also hd tvs are very expensive these days.

Not to mention DVD was a lot more intuitive compared to VHS. Being easier to use was built into the system.

What do you have to do to enjoy the high definition of blu-ray, and HD-DVD? You need an HDTV, and the right cables, and the settings on the TV have to be set right. That is not intuitive.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
