"Zeh" isn't too far from "zay" which would be the French pronunciation.  But yes, the English-speaking world outside of USA calls it zed.  I just read on Wikipedia thatsome people pronounce it "izzard". Now my mind is blown. A possible etymology is from French "et zede", not too different from that of "ampersand".
