You could always back them up on an external drive.

I'd just be replacing discs with hard drives then. Say every game is gonna be 50GB for now on. That's only 20 games per 1TB drive. And they fail when they like to. Plus, wasting couple hundered dollars for a drive and a backup of that drive, just in case. Discs are easier still. Net is still crap speeds.  And I don't have to worry about dropping them.
