Having Mark Cerny, their lead system designer and a guy with TONS of credibility, as the main speaker was a brilliant move. If it had been a PR machine like Jack Tretton, we would have been up to your elbows in BS within minutes. Cerny was completely open and honest and it was awesome. I know he's busy with a lot of stuff but I hope they keep bringing him back for conferences, or at least E3.
It's early, and a lot could change, but the direction Sony has decided to go in is just the right move for both developers and gamers.
