Gotta say, shit just got real with this. Xbox shouldnt have waited this long.

But Sony is infamous for neglecting Europe. That would give Xbox some breathing room.

The 360 got 1 1/2 years of breathing room this gen, how did that turn out?  The PS3 is ahead of the 360 there by ~5.6M units.  The NeXbox doesn't stand a chance in EU if it only has a 6 month launch gap and they are both priced around the same.

It worked out well gen over gen. Really well. Xbox needed that year to help with brand awareness. Something the 720 will not need. Europe is fair game either way.

And a lot of MS's gain was because of Sony's screwups early on.  If MS can't beat Sony (5.6M is a huge lead, and it is only growing) with a 1 1/2 years headstart and a $200 price advantage, then I doubt it will fare any better against a PS that is probably only $50 more expensive and, at most, comes out 6 months later.  Most Europeans will just wait for the PS4 release.

It was and MS capitalized on it. They needed that to gain a foothold for brand awareness and they don't need Sony to screw up again. Sony does have an advantage but even one small mistake could tip the balance. Are Europe that dedicated to Sony? They can't despise MS that much to almost Japan levels. Especially considering the consoles will more likely than not be near identical, especially with Sony now going after the casual audience with their "kinect like" camera and MS' console will likely be slightly cheaper. In my opinion, Europe is fair game with Sony just a slight advantage.
