I agree with Mr. Khan. We're approaching a technological singularity with regards to home consoles, set top boxes, and smart TVs. The new player on the horizon is the Steambox. What I believe is going to happen is that the big 3 console makers will end up making PCs branded as their home console for the next generation. Only Nintendo is not progressing their tech in line with this future. Everyone else has jumped to x86-64.
Heck, there's little reason that the guts of a PS4 could not be crammed into a smart TV as standard hardware by the time next gen rolls around. AMDs apus are surprisingly capable and more than adequate to power a gaming market integrated into each and every TV that gets made.
I agree that sales will be abysmal this gen while other players with more open platforms pick up the remaining demand. I see only Nintendo making a dedicated console after the WiiU. Sony and Microsoft will make PCs.
