Yes it's a gimmick, and people saying otherwise are just trying to fool themselves creating excuses. It is a gimmick just like the one in Wii U and the future Xbox. What is a console without a gimmick in this era? It is the norm, not the exception.
And there's nothing wrong with the Gamepad or the PS4 controller or even the Kinect. At least talking for me, I like the way companies are trying to change the interface. I like the touchscreen in the middle of a traditional controller as I find interesting a touchpad.
Playing the games like the last 25 years don't make me anything anymore, so I'll like to see new gameplay.
