The Gamecube was not the strongest but was stronger than the PS2, and close to Xbox. Lol sure.. If the numbers were reversed you'd be singing a different tune.. You can't measure something intangible like "gamer enjoyment." How do you know most gamers got the most enjoyment out of PS360? Yeah, I'm sure 360 fans "enjoyed" when their 360 red ringed on them, and I'm sure many Sony fans "enjoyed" spending $500-$600 on their console. The only way to determine a "winner" is sales. Sure Wii tapered off at the end compared to the other two, but at the end of the day, it still sold the most systems, brought in several new gamers, and was home to several smash hit games that have sold well into the 20 millions. It was a sales phenomenon at one point, that simply flatlined prematurely thanks mostly to third parties jumping ship, as well as Nintendo cutting off its life short by cutting new releases for it in favor of 3DS and Wii U focus. With PS4, I'm seeing a deja vu of the 2006 PS3 reveal (there's even a Killzone demo again!) where Sony and their fans rejoice from how powerful their console is and how that will somehow translate to sales. The average consumer doesn't care nearly as much about graphics as the core do. Hell, most don't even know what "8 gig GDDR5" is let alone cares about it, and I think many people are going to be hesitant to invest in a $500-$700 console yet again (which is probably what the PS4 will have to cost unless Sony is prepared to take massive losses) for little more than beefed up graphics. I think it'll probably perform decent numbers, but I don't see why some are acting like it's going to set the world on fire when the now affordable PS3 isn't even do this. |
Yes, that was already established. That is why I framed my comment that way in response to Painmaster212
I would be singing a different tune? And you assume this because? I give respect where respect is due. If the Wii sold ¼ of the PS3/360’s numbers and managed to produce much more quality titles then I would give it its dues. “Quality’ is subjective, but I’m inclined to believe most gamers had a preference for either their PS3 or 360 over the Wii this gen and had their Wii in the capacity of a supporting system (again not everyone but most).
You can’t measure something intangible? My friend, have you ever done a thesis before? If so you do know what you just said is utter rubbish, right? I have a hypothesis with respect to this and the ‘intangible element’ and how it will affect the Wii U’s sales in the long term. For now I will keep that theory for myself and test it later. Without stating it I’ll just say that intangibles are important, and do spill over into tangible elements. I have a feeling the Wii U will suffer for this.
Did I suggest sales were not important in my post? I don’t think so.
I think you are assuming way too much here. The PS3 was saddled with a lot of issues that kept it back. Higher price point, immense difficulty to program for (that cannot be over emphasized), started new systems from scratch (like online), poor marketing, etc. As I suggested above a lot of the contributing factors with respect to the PS3’s price point will not be there this time around, so it stands to reason the PS4 won’t be as expensive. Let’s wait and see before assuming the worse (ie a $500 – $700 console, according to you). Second, if you watched the event tonight you will see that the PS4 is VERY easy to program for. In some sense one can say it was built for developers by developers, and that will help mitigate costs, allow for games to be released sooner and at higher quality levels. Third, PSN is no longer a fledgling system and it only has up to go. And Sony has a new marketing team. Time will tell if they will do a great job in the future, but whatever they do they can’t be worse than the last guys Sony had. xD And finally, unlike a certain system, it seems as if the PS4 will have full third party support.
I would really like to see how the Wii U does relative to the other systems a year or 2 from now, and of course I’d like to see your response as well. I think it is too early to make assumptions for any of the new systems. So let us wait and see.
Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS
