That was to be expected, japanese developers are not that big in man power.
Before you can show a game on a new consoles, you need a GAME ENGINE. Most jp developers are simply too small to develop their own engines, so they depend on available game engines, reasonably priced and reasonably stable and provably working. I'm pretty sure none of the available engines (for any of the next consoles) are stable enough to be used by customers. The whimsical Square Enix demo is proof that not even they have an engine ready yet for the PS4.
