We'll have to wait and see but if the rumoured 5 year plans are to be believed, ultimately Kinect should work with illumiroom and the 3d projections allow you to eventually have a sword fight (?) with the villian right in your own living room (imagine being Luke Skywalker fighting Darth Vader with your living room looking like the Death Star). Cool for more casual gamers but won't be responsive enough for the core even with these improvements.
How well any of that will actually work is still completely unknown but that seems to be the end result they're after.
