I think you misunderstood something. There's a psychological factor involved: People who drink diet soda tend to eat more food, because they consumed less calories with their drink. Kinda like those women who eat half a piece of cake, a little bit of ice-cream, half a bar of chocolate etc. every day and then wonder why they gain weight/can't lose weight, even though they never ate anything big. |
A (chubby) lady my wife used to work with would always get a big mac value meal, supersized... with a diet soda for lunch. I remember overhearing this lady bemoaning the fact that she was putting on weight and she didn't understand why... 'I switched completely to diet soda and I'm still putting on weight!'. She had read an article that eliminating sugared soda from your diet could help you loose 30lbs in a year or something like that, but didn't connect the dots that the big mac & fries might be part of the problem.
