I just had an idea for an announcement they could make tomorrow that I think would be pretty big. Imagine Sony built the PS3 hardware into every TV they sell at no extra cost. In addition, they modify the XMB to handle smart TV functionality. This would put a lot of Sony's long term goals to reality.

1. Their TV business isn't looking so hot right now. However, Sony can be a big player here if they'd just stop thinking they're better than everyone else and try to add some value and differentiation to their TVs. Having a PS3 built into their TVs (at little to no extra cost) would do both of these things.

2. A TV is still an essential device for home entertainment. Just about everyone buys them to consume some form of media, be it movies, direct TV, OTT TV, games or even music in some cases. It makes sense to have the PS3 built into your TV as it supports each of these forms of media consumption and does so pretty well. It has a store offering these various mediums. That is a huge opportunity for Sony to really enhance the adoption of its online services and store. Of course, I'm assuming Sony would include a pretty sizable hard drive and a blu ray drive in their TVs as well.

3. It's a trojan horse to get Playstation branded devices into houses and improve sales of software and accessories; which is where they make their money. Their Smart TV's can also have an interface to easily access news related to Sony's products which will help consumers easily keep up to what Sony has been up to. It's pretty much free advertising.

4. It unifies Sony's Smart TV offerings. Sony has individual offerings for Smart TV apps across their current TVs and the PS3. Having all apps made for the Smart TV available across the PS3 and Sony's Smart TVs (which increases the market for these apps) increases the likelihood that devs and companies will invest in making these apps for the Smart TV experience.

It's just a thought I had but I think it plays very well into unifying Sony's offerings and strengthening multiple sides of Sony's business segments at once.

P.S. I haven't read this thread so I don't know if this has been mentioned before or not. Apologies if it has been covered.

P.P.S. Throw in a few months of PS Plus to get people some games to play from the get go.

well those are great idea's with great benifits. the only thing i can see happening is that they lose out on a lot of ps3+ps4 sales. thats why i think they should make gaikai come with sony TV's. with access to some PSN media related services. the TV comes with a TV controller and you can stream game on it when ever you feel like it, high quality games like uncharted. that way they get an advantage with their TV's that samsung will never be able to compete with (atleast not for a VERY long time) and it also drives software sales. and peripherals like controllers (mostly), PS move and headsets.
