The only reason they had a 3G and a Wifi only model is because it allowed for Sony to sell the Vita at $300 to increase their profit margin/have a model that sold at profit. I think they should have never made the wifi only model to support 3G use. This is a good move for them, as the Vita's production cost are probably low enough to justifiy getting rid of the tiered models. It also stops confusing consumers. If we've learned something about Sony with the PSP and PS3 is that both lost features with the years.
The current PSP model you can find in the stores doesn't even have wifi or stereo sound, and I don't think dual speakers are that expensive. But anyway, time will tell.
