Oh, to be sure, MS did a really good job. However, there are a lot of people who consider gamerscore to be a sunk cost and don't want to lose it.

Well I'm not sure M$ will carry everyone's existing achievements / gamerscore over to the NextBox since they are two entirely different platforms.  Rumors are they're completely revamping XBL, so your existing XBL account may not even work with NextBox.

I can see why gamerscores and trophies make people purchase one particular version of a game over another because they'd rather the achievements and trophys be counted towards the console they've invested more time and money in thus far, but once the next-gen consoles kick off I think that point will be moot.

 

You can carry your achievements on to your PC and Phone but not to the Nextbox? That would be preposterous.

Same thing happens with the PS3 to Vita, and will certainly be true to the PS4.
