I'll put it to you this way. The PSX you are talking about is irrelevant and nobody even knows what it is, except for like 17 people and most of them are in this thread.

If you are an old timer (I started with NES when it was in its' prime) you will recall that (at least in the U.S.) all magazines (the only real media at the time for this hobby) referred to the original PlayStation as the PSX. It was the code name, what people called it before and after it was announced.

It sort of stuck, because PlayStation always sounded dorky and was too long to type. I will always remember it as the PSX, and so will tons of people that actually got to experience the greatness of that system as it was happening. The PS1 or PSOne is that small redesign that Sony released later on.

When I see people type PS1 instead of PSX, I think "young whipper snapper". Almost like you're looking back at the thing because you hopped on with the PS2, or god forbid the PS3.
