We don't call the 360 the Xenon, so why call the Playstation the PSX? More so when the PSX is an entirely different console it only makes sense to use a smarter abbreviation instead of potentially causing confusion between the two. This is further highlighted as the term "PSX" wasn't particuarly used outside of the USA to refer to the Playstation - the term never appeared in the Official Playstation Magazine. |
In this very thread you already have the covers of magazines from Croatia and Poland that include PSX in the name. How can you still claim that it wasn't particularly used outside of USA? It was used all over the world. That's the only term that I've ever known for the first Playstation console. People still use it, because they have always used it to describe this console. The fact that some term becomes a part of the language and is commonly used in a given meaning makes it valid, no matter if its origin is "official" or not. The lack of a Sony stamp isn't more important than the fact that for millions of people around the globe Playstation = PSX.
Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!
