Such numbers wouldn't mesh with all previous sources of gold being ~50% of Live users. If 46M were Gold users, then that means that about 65% are Gold users - assuming that 100% of Xbox 360's are still in usage. That figure is way too high.
46M XBL users would mean that about 65% of 360 purchases are connected to the internet, which meshes with estimates made by 3rd parties like EEDAR that believe 70-80% of 360's are online (which leaves about 15-20% of 360 users that aren't using their consol enough to be reported in this number). Its an unbelievably good figure for Microsoft for online penetration, and even better for their Gold users, as that number is probably 10x higher than PS Plus users.
