Nothing. I own the stuff I buy. It's my right to sell it, trade, keep it, modify it, or burn it in a toaster.

If dev's can't handle the cost of making a game I suggest they stop spending millions developing AAA gambles. If it's unproven do it indie style. That means do the gameplay right, but don't spend too much on presentation. It works in the film industry.

I'm tired of everyone saying that poor game publishers are losing half their money to used game sales. Bullshit! Every industry has used sales yet only video game companies are hurt by them?

The only different between the video game industry and all the others is that they have spent that last decade tricking people into thinking that we don't own the stuff we buy. They did it little by little. First it was Digital Distribution, then it was Online Passes, and now they want to take all our ownership rights and expect us to let it happen because we shouldn't buy used anyway.

Don't let them fool you.

Well, there is the fact that other mediums have multiple opportunities to recoup their outlay. Games have to do it there and then, probably in the first 2-3 weeks of release. Movies have their Cinema release, DVD/Blu-ray release, premium TV release (Sky Movies etc.) then standard TV release able to generate royalties for decades.

When you look at how much gaming budgets have spiked, you can see why it's such an issue, but it's only being compounded now that game sales have been slowing rather than increasing year on year which was helping to absorb some of the spend.

It's all good and well saying control the budgets then, but you only need to look at the crowing over "substanard Wii U visuals" or "lol PS3 ver half the frame rate" etc to see how important the best graphics etc are to a lot of gamers. I think it's going to go the way of "online pass" but to activate the game on each console in the first place.

Personally I don't mind them trimming back budgets, as I'm not compelled to need the best visuals all the time. But I think you'd find a lot of people on here kicking up a fuss about it :p
