The only thing it does is to allow the player to avoid obstacles. It doesn't require skill and kills the fun of the interaction with them. There are jumps to the background too but that isn't good because I cannot calculate the jump properly because of the camera. And a game doesn't have to be completely in 3D to have multiple planes. We had games with that in the early 90's.
