It's hard to say because if you look at the market leader Gamestop their used game business is turned toward making people buy more used games.
You get huge benefits and discounts if you spend the money you just got for selling them a game on another used game they have for sale........( which is how they can make this so profitable).
In practice the number of customers that sell games and use that money to finance the purchase of a new game isn't that great. It exists for sure, but it's not as predominent as you would think....
