Yes. But I did not play Witcher 1 and still could understand most stuff going on in 2. There's also a summary video of the story in 1 they made, on youtube

But is it worth playing the actual first game or just skip to part 2 ;o

It's worth it, but the quality difference is like Uncharted 1 to 2 from the two titles.
