I somehow can't belief that a title like Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be a launch title for the PS4 or be published within the first two years of the console cycle. The install base would simply be too small.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII never had a release date announced. I can't see why they should rename the game to Final Fantasy XV? I am also not surprised that FF 15 and 16 are already in Production. Since Final Fantasy games are no sequels they need a considerable time in creating a new world, new characters and a new story. And since FF reinvents itself with every other game they think about a fitting battle system for each title. So it seems natural that FF games have a longer development cycle than yearly sequels that changes only so little with every entry.
A long production cycle still does not mean that a full team is working on the title. So the information that FF 15 and FF 16 are already in production means ultimately not much.
And as is quoted in the starting post:
"Square Enix has repeatedly asserted that the game hasn't been cancelled, and the original plans for the Fabula Nova Crystallis series are still being followed."
