Subscriptions models won't work for consoles imo. Most people (obviously not counting hardcore gamers) don't see the value of online gaming (if that's the only thing the subscription is for).
This type of contracts make sense for things you use all the day like making calls, texting, using the internet etc. Online gaming alone won't do the job if companies are trying to attract non-gamers, so in order for this to work the console will need to offer a lot of things other than just pure gaming and the simple entertainment apps (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon video, etc).
