I think the main problem is that companies like Dell or HP jack the price up on their high-end rigs that people can only afford to spend $6k on them every 6 years meaning instead of upgrading them, due to ripoff upgrade prices, they deal with newer games only being able to be played on low and eventually not at all.

I think this is a big problem as people are cheap and buy those dell or hp machines or even the emachines which are fairly cheap with their big hardrives and memory etc but then have a crappy ass card.  People are mislead all the time in the stores thinking they are getting a greta package or deal which is true if all they want to do is use office and the internet but not much is paid to gaming.  They expect you to come back later and upgrade to one of those expensive cards for which local stores typically don't have the latest so are over priced etc.  Basically alot of people are screwed when it comes to PC gaming unless you are some what savvy about PC hardware etc.
