Ok I'll go ahead and admit it, I really don't like them.

I don't like what Sony has brought to the video game market. The PS1 dazzled people with prerendered cutscenes (nevermind the gameplay). And imo they've kept that focus on the cinematic yet shallow. It's just not a cool approach to making games, cause games aren't movies or TV shows. But hey, Sony makes TVs and movies and is in control of whatever media standard there is in entertainment. So they keep raising the tech bar - turns out 3rd parties love that cause it's the easiest way of "innovating" (by not actually innovating anything but graphics).

Another thing is their shameless use of violence in their games. Ever since Sony entered the market, video games have become that much more cruel and sadistic. Sony produce whatever may sell. Adolescents like brutality? Let's make our own ultra violent flagship series (God Of War), with a deceptively comic-like hero. And promote it with an actual dead goat, wtf.

And I am still bitter about Sony luring Square away from Nintendo - although less so when looking at what Square has become.

So that's my gut feeling about them, and it's unlikely to ever change. BUT of course I am aware that it's not all black&white. I'm sure they've made some truly great games, I know they have crazy indie studios today, and I even agree that Nintendo does need a kick in the butt every now and then, so in that respect it's good they're around.
