I honestly think this will only affect hardcore gamers (ala people on this site who actually read up about these things), but I think most actually take gaming too seriously to ignore their system of choice because of the used game policy.

The average gamers only buys a handful of games each year. They don't need used titles...

If you don't like nintendo Ips, your not gonna buy a wii U... simple. IF you don't play halo, fable or gears (or anything new the announce) but you're loving what sony is showing off, then you're not gonna pick up 720 just to make a political statement. You end up spending $40 extra each year, its not the end of the world. It reminds of when people said they would not support games with online passes. I wonder how many people actually followed up on that and avoided a game they would have otherwise bought.

You really think people are that stupid?

Lets say I am a parent in a low income family, wanting to buy a console for my child - I don't know which console I want, I will form that opinion by looking at the games on display in the store I go into, and possibly talking to a worker there.

I look at the PS4, all the games are $120 AU (130 US), I look at the 720, all the games are $130 US. I look at the Wii U, there are some games for $130 US - the new ones, there are other 1st hand games that have been discounted to $30-120 US to compete with 2nd hand prices, and there are some 2nd hand for $20 - 90 US).

Which am I gonna choose?

Edit: At the people saying they don't buy or sell games 2nd hand, this still effects you. Developers will not want to put their games on a console where they have to sell them for $30 less for customers to see them as worth the same. (Non Australians may want to replace $30 with the average trade in price of a used game in your country).
