Sony will have to work extremely hard to win America. i actually don't see it happening. I think a lot of people will stick with the 360 no matter what Sony brings to the party next gen. Unfortunately everything in the US is a popularity contest and Microsoft is the absolute best at making everyone believe they are the coolest.

As long as the Nextbox establishes itself as being the "cool" or "hip" console. Nothing Sony can offer will tear those people away.

I live in the US and I would absolutely love to see a Sony dominance here, I just don't see that happening. I look around and all I see are people who are loyal to the 360 simply because it's popular. Most of them stick to the same old arguments from early this gen (PS3 has no games). Most people I talk to still believe that to be true. Obviously it isn't but if they havn't figured that out by now they probably aren't all that into videogames. they just play a few, the big blockbusters that all their friends have.

I believe the "gamers" here have no interest in anything that isn't trendy atm. I'm fairly certain the fanbase that Microsoft has managed to amass this gen will easily transition to the Nextbox regardless of anything else.

You need to remember that fanbase of the people who think something is 'cool' had a PS1 then a PS2 then xbox360. The translation from PS2 to 360 just shows there is no mass brand preference. Just because Ms did well in America last time doesn't mean they will this time.

I diagree  then you only had two companies  both Japanese but with differing public images when it came to gaming  then came MS seeing  how big the video market had become since Sony entered the market and the fact that it was still growing , they wanted some of that pie and it came the bonus of controlling a closed system , so what happened was you had a US company doing a Sony and that with online that really took off with the 360 is more a reason for success rather than being cool , so while the head start by itself helped it was LIVE and the boom in popularity of online multiplayer especially shooters in the US  that maximized this head start , with people playing with their mates whether at home or in dorms across the country they did so on 360 and this led to when the PS3 came along a lot of users looking for a new console went with the one their mates where on .

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot
