Maybe affirmative action is an acknowledgement of the the failings of the public education system for "minorities".

But we must have state education, because people might not receive an "equal" education!!! Herp, derp.

No one is denying there be private schooling.  Well, nobody legitimately in America's political systems is, although maybe you can hunt down some wacked out counter example.  Those who advocate public education believe that it should be funded sufficiently so that the citizens in a country get sufficiently educated to be able to function in society.  The idea here isn't to end up just rewarding the best of the best, to make sure they get to become elite, but try to lift the boats up for everyone.  Yes, one can say it is a socialistic bent, and I am pretty sure anything in that area deeply offends you, but there is generally normally seen in society of trying to do the minimum at least for the bottom, so that the bottom has even a sliver of a chance of making something out of their lives.

And the argument ends up being whether or not there should be public school at all, not whether or not private schools should be abolished.  But, feel free to herp, derp with your strawman there.

Fine, I changed two words in the statement. Most of your tirade is now void.

You're right that thanks to state education, those at the bottom only have a slither of a chance of making something out of their lives. Personally, I want more than that for those at the bottom, and the state has proved itself to be incapable of doing it. Let someone  else have a chance.
