In the future, 3rd parties are somehow going to be blamed for Iwata's/Nintendo's refusal to accept cloud gaming (once it takes off after its slow start). It's going to be spun something along the lines of they didn't try hard enough to convince them.

Once it takes off after its slow start is the key phrase here. Nintendo wasn't too far behind in implementing online multiplayer when it *really* became a force that mattered on consoles (Halo 2, 2004, Mario Kart DS, 2005. Hell, Iwata's famous anti-online quote is 2004). Given that we're still a good 5-10 years off from mass-market viability of full-scale retail titles becoming available on the cloud, Nintendo will surely be ready to come on board once it becomes an actual thing.
