The dev cost are rising at alarming speeds. Here's a very interesting article about the matter. Pretty long though.

o.O Makes you wonder if small devs will be able to develop for PS4 at all. I predict a support of the PS3 for at least another 4yrs.

Well if developers and publishers don't take measures I could see next gen being the both extremes: the indie games and the AAA games. All things in the middle will "disappear". This is a worst case scenario though.

Like the article mentions at some point this devs cost are because of games trying to emulate big budget movies and some of them end of failing. If publishers stop being so greedy, then this cost shouldn't be a problem since they could stay the same (or just increase a little).
