MSNBC has reported on numerous events that have looked bad for Microsoft, yet every time they do, people are aghast at how that could possibly happen. They're a news organization. If they don't report the news, they wouldn't have much credibility. MSNBC doesn't want to be the other Fox News.
I am rather unconvinced that "Americans are about to throw the full weight of the $23 billion they spend every year on DVD rentals and purchases" toward Blu-ray. Everyone isn't going to run out tomorrow night and buy a BR player, it will be a gradual transition, and will probably take longer than VHS->DVD.
