| nuckles87 said: This sort of thing is such bullshit. There is very little evidence that points towards video games causing increased aggression in children, and no evidence that links games to gun massacres. It is especially embarrassing for me as a progressive when I see this kind of nonsense coming from places like the Huffington Post (apparently attacking video games is one of the few things that is truly bipartisan). Do none of these people do any research? The US violent crime rate peaked in 1992-1993, the years Mortal Kombat and Doom came out. Europe and Canada get these same games, and their violent crime rate is a LOT lower. The key here never was, and never will be regulating violent video games. I've killed thousands of aliens (and marines, lol) in Halo, thousands of policemen in Grand Theft Auto, plenty of Nazis and lord knows what else, and I am no more qualified to handle a gun then when I was ten. It's no coincidence that the countries/regions I've mentioned have stronger gun control laws, moderate gun ownership rates, and it's certainly no coincidence that the Brady Bill was passed into law near the end of the aforementioned 92-93 peak either. Video game haters and out of touch political hacks, you are barking up the wrong tree. Than again, this is why I fully support President Obama's call to formally research violent video game's effect on people. It will just provide more evidence to shut these people up and get them to focus on real problems and solutions. |
Exactly. These fools just choose to ignore the evidence so that they can support their argument. This is a comment the author wrote in response to a reader comment,
" My other point is that statistics, because they usually tend to "frame" the discussion from a limited viewpoint, can be misleading. Even if there isn't a direct statistical correlation between video games and violence, we need to use our common sense here."
What? He is bascially saying statistics are wrong, lets use our speculation. WTF?
