I don't think Microsoft needs Dell to promise anything, writing or verbally, in terms of android. Dell determined that the race to the bottom with Android tablets and phones isn't profitable for them. It had nothing to do with Microsoft. Chromebooks tho may be something Microsoft is worried about and this is where the microsoft financial aid may come in to play. Maybe the next surface will be made by Dell? :) |
I think that MSFT would love for Dell's unquestioned loyalty, and the buyout would be one way to achieve that. Keep in mind that if the buyout were not realized and Windows8 did not pan out, then Dell would strongly be considering a move to android tablets. Also, are you saying that MSFT is worried by Dell making a chromebook or chromebooks taking a large chunk out of computing market share? You must be talking about the second possibiility bc you seem to be saying that MSFT already seems pretty assured about Dell's loyalty, even though you realize that loyalty in business only happens when there is a reason to be loyal
