You can't just assume another 1.1m like that. I doubt tablets other than the Surface sold at all. The major OEMs were extremely not on board with making or promoting them due to the $100 undercutting.

Do you think Surface will have legs? There is no hype or awareness any more compared to Q4. There is more availability, but it would have to overtake at least one of the top four to be considered improved, and I see no compelling reason that it should.

Why wouldn't I be able to assume all other OEM's have doubled microsoft sales?

This doesn't even include the HP, Dell and Lenovo offerings which I can get through their sites. I know a lot of people who bought the Asus VivoRT for example when it went on sale for 399 with free dock.

In terms of other OEM's, Acer has been bitching about windows 8 saying its not growing the market... but Asus, Lenovo, HP and Dell have all said good things about touch screen device penetration and have advertised Windows 8 all over Toronto Canada. I can show you the main subway intersection in toronto as it's plastered with Asus Windows 8 touch screen ads.

 

 

Dell will surely be avoiding any android tablets once MSFT locks in its very small portion of the buyout.....smart move
