AMD has had better performance to price ratio for a while now. NVidia has a few perks that come with their gpus but they are usually more expensive. That's all console manufacturers look at...who can do it better for less.
Also NVidia really doesn't have a good track record with consoles. they were behind the sega Saturn xbox 1 and ps3 and never did they produce winning gpu formula for the console to be successful.
After all, they actually believed quad polygons on sega Saturn were the way to go while everyone else was doing triangles. NVidia also screwed Microsoft hardcore with xbox 1 gpu production and cost. sony got off easy in comparison...they just got a mediocre underperforming gpu from NVidia.
