kain_kusanagi said: You're twisting my words. I'm not complaining about PS+. I'm stating why it has no value for me. I said I would pay if I got to pick the games I get for "free". I also said that if Sony charged for online gaming I'd pay and not complain. Those are two different things. But I will explain. I don't want to pay for an optional service that doesn't have value to me. I also would prefer to not pay for online gaming. But as with XBL I would pay for PSN if I had to. I wouldn't complain because I'd be paying for something that I want. It would be nice if XBL was free like PSN, but it's not so I pay. However I have the option of not paying for PS+ and instead buying used games on the cheap that I get to keep forever and maintain full ownership rights for. |
I actually agree with what you're saying here. Both PS+ and Xbox Live have relative values that do not appeal to everyone.
Personally, I love PS+. I've already seen substantial value with discounts. However, I don't spend a lot of money on gaming, so grabbing something like Unfinished Swan for a few dollars really appeals to me, but I do understand that others might not care about saving $5 here or there. For me, that alone pays for PS+. I LOVE the auto-updates and patching, but again, not everyone will care.
The value of the Instant Game Collection is also relative. If you buy all the games you want, and like having a physical copy for everything, then Plus probably isn't for you. I only care about physical copies for games I really, really like, though, so I'm fine with a digital copy of most games that I'll only play once. Since I wait for a lot of games to drop in price to play them, and there are a lot of games I want to play but are on a back-burner, Plus is perfect for me.
I also want to point out that for Vita owners like me, the value of Plus rises exponentially. I'm downloading Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus as we speak, a game I kind of want to play but probably would not have bought anytime soon.
I feel the same way about Live, for the most part, except I don't like the things Live takes away. It's honestly the biggest problem I have with the Xbox. I'm only a "now and then" multi-player, so there is zero chance of me paying for a service I barely use. The value just isn't there for me. What I don't like is that I would have to pay if I just wanted to play around on the multi-player for a game I just bought to see if I liked it. There is also functions like video streaming being behind a pay-gate, which I do not like at all. In effect, Microsoft forces me to not buy an Xbox. However, if you're a person who likes multi-player above all else, then I can see the value in it for you. I really have no problem with people paying for Live; my problem is with Microsoft for taking the value out Live for people who care more about the single-player experience.
