If you do you like the games you have to keep paying or you'll lose it. The sales are fine, but again you're paying Sony to choose what to discount for you. It's more like a rental system, but you only get to rent what Sony picks out from it's basket of stuff they that has already paid for itself or isn't selling. |
You get free games, not just discounts.
Those free games may be game you've always wanted to try or missed. In my case its Borerlands and Bioshock 2. Yes, Sony chooses the games and thats the whole point of it. They give us a chance to try these games they know many of us missed or in some cases it can be used as a promotional tool to promote the sequel.(as with Bioshock 2)
WE DO NOT LOSE THE GAMES ONCE WE STOP SUBSCRIBING. We just lose access to them. But then again, why would you unsubscribe? By the time your subscribition ends, odds are you've already gotten more than your moneys worth. Odds are you're not even playing these games anymore so it wouldn't matter you can't play them anymore.
I myself just finished Bioshock 2 and plan on buying Infinite in the future. This is the magic of Playstation Plus.
Your argument that you dont' get to choose what games to play is just ridiculous. Plus isn't a rental service. It is not like Netflix. However, you do get a LARGE library of 1-hour game trials. That's alone may be worth it to some people. You can try the new Medal of Honor or Battlefield 3 for example.

Don't bother with him. He's obviously butt hurt that he doesn't have access to Playstation plus.

What are you talking about? I have access to PS+ just like any PS3 owner. It just doesn't offer me anything I want. Don't make assumption about people you don't know. I bought my PS3 for Team Ico and since that hasn't happened this gen I have number of exclusives that I've enjoyed that made it worth it. PS+ has very little that appeals to me.
The games it gives for "free" are all games I could get for a few bucks in a used bin at my local used game store. I bought a used copy of Bioshock 2 for about $5 and if I had any interest in Borderlands it was about the same. Luckily I didn't have to pay for the game I wansn't interesting in. I don't miss out on games, I buy the ones I want most and wait for cheap used prices on the ones I'm less interested in. And I get to keep them forever with no need to pay a subscription to play them in the future. I'd pay for PS+ if it let me play anything in the entire library, but it doesn't so I'm not interested. I also have don't like paying for a digital copy of anything that I can get a physicle copy of. When I pay for something I want full ownership rights, but Sony treats PS+ "free" games as rentals without letting me pick out the games to rent.
It's not about the money. If you had to pay for PS+ to get access to online gaming I'd pay it and I wouldn't complain. And I'm not even complaining about PS+. All I'm saying is I don't have any interesting in paying for an optional service that has nothing to offer me that I want.
|
Wait a second. So you complain about PS+ because they don't offer you every single game to play but you'd be willing to pay for PS+ if Sony decided to make it compulsory to play online?!
|
You're twisting my words. I'm not complaining about PS+. I'm stating why it has no value for me. I said I would pay if I got to pick the games I get for "free". I also said that if Sony charged for online gaming I'd pay and not complain. Those are two different things. But I will explain. I don't want to pay for an optional service that doesn't have value to me. I also would prefer to not pay for online gaming. But as with XBL I would pay for PSN if I had to. I wouldn't complain because I'd be paying for something that I want. It would be nice if XBL was free like PSN, but it's not so I pay. However I have the option of not paying for PS+ and instead buying used games on the cheap that I get to keep forever and maintain full ownership rights for.

Ok, I'll concede that you didn't 'complain' as such but citing the reason for you not subscribing as 'not being allowed to play every game in the library' does sound just a tad like complaint to me. I will also concede that it could be misinterpretation on my part so sorry about that. I used to be the sort of person that wanted to 'own' the game outright, but after many years of hoarding and never actually going back to the games I kept for that very reason, I concluded that playing the game was enough.
I have gotten into the habit of selling my games as soon as I've squeezed every bit of joy from them, so PS+ offers me a much cheaper alternative. I would buy a game for £35 - £40 and then sell it for around £20 (if I didn't wait too long). That means I effectively rented the game for £15 to £20! That's the realisation that swung it for me. Even if I only like 10 of the 44 games a year, it's still a hell of a lot cheaper (for me) to go with plus, and trust me it's more than 10.
I do see it as a rental system but an extremely cheap one that offers me the games for less than £1 for a year. My local Blockbusters charges £4 for 3 days (well it used to anyway). With many discounted games, exclusive betas, cloud saving and overnight updating, I just can't ignore it any longer. I DID for quite some time.
