1. Sony has the lowest total sales, yes, but they have the momentum right now as they consistently lead week after week in global sales.  So, yes, Sony has some momentum right now.

2. You are only looking at first party, Sony makes money off of all software sold on their systems.  You need to look at total software sells.  Basically, the strategy being debated here is the kind of strategy that would turn off third party support, or in other words the vast majority of software sells on the console.

3. Not sure what home has to do with anything, but honestly it is completely irrelevant.  It is not a feature Sony even markets or talks about anymore.  It's basically the playstation version of second life.

4. So in a thread talking about maintaining profitability, you suggest bundling the vita with the ps3?  I'm sure including a device that is sold at a loss and has little consumer interest would absolutely drive consumer interest and profit...

1. "but they have the momentum right now " Really? Take a look at the United States sales NPD, Microsoft outsold Sony over 2-1 for this past fall holiday season in the United states. So if you really want to be looking at this to the point of Momentum, its clear in the United states that is not the case. Sony is selling good but remember this is about making a long Haul sales business plan.

2. No I am looking at the fact that right now Mobile software sales for smart devices is outpacing the sales , How would that turn off 3rd party development? instead of concentrating on PC centric developer's for their 3rd party offering's Sony courts the mobile developer's instead. just look at the movement of Apple,Google with Android, and companies like Samsung with their smart TV's and those Cheap Hardware centric Consoles like the OUYA. instead of looking to compete with Microsoft courting the 3rd party publisher's Sony goes to the smart devices developer's. they already are doing just that with Playstation Mobile, now picture that for a living room type of console support, like the OUYA but SONY PLAYSTATION instead!

3. Its very Important, it provides more profit for Sony, the fact that you said its playstation version of second Life is not the case at all.

4. the PSVita was stated by  scott rohde to provide profit on day 1 SCEA, because that was talking about SCEA

what Kaz was talking abou is not all regions they would be selling for a profit on ever PSVita sold, and what consumer interest would matter if they are mainly buying it for the PS3? that's the point bundling the PSVita inside the box with the PS3 is the next plan no doubt, because look at the trends.

Nintendo, mobile handheld device with their game console

Microsoft has surface and the Microsoft SmartGlass to connect with their xbox360 and the next xbox

you do not think Sony want's to have a presence inside that paradigm? do you really think Sony is going to drop that idea when the PSVita right now has 128 MB of dedicated GPU ram for the PSVita. the Nintendo 3DS has 6 MB of dedicated GPU ram for its 268 MHz single core PICA 200 GPU. do you see Nintendo bringing out yet another Handheld in the next few year's? they already put out the 3DSXL.

Sony has a handheld device made to keep pace for developer's for the next few years for mobile development for game's. bundling it with the PS3 is pretty much alredy happened  and was sold out anyway:

http://www.geek.com/articles/games/sony-is-considering-a-ps3ps-vita-bundle-2012101/

so Say Sony waits until 2014 or 2015 to start to bundle the PSVita with the PS3 when it would be cheaper to do it!

buy a game for your PS3 take it on the go with your PS3's touch screen controller..the PSVita.
