They never did, really. Video games peaked, in my opinion, in the mid to late 1990s. Graphics have improved greatly since then, but the games haven't improved with them. I wish developers would spend less time, money, and energy on graphics and more time working on the craft of video games. Of course video games are a visual art, and the look and presentation of a game is important. But gameplay will always, always trump all.
