No form of contraception other than abstinence is 100% effective. Do you think having sex with someone of the opposite gender qualifies as consenting to bring a new life into the world? Do you think that it's reasonable to ask people who want to remain childless to completely abstain from sex? |
Yes that is how I feel. In fact that is just how nature is without contraception: You have sex, you have a baby as a result (not taking into account certain periods of the menstruation cycle of course). Your sperm doesn't ask for your consent before swimming up to an egg and fertilising it. If you are using contraception, you should know that it will not be 100% effective, so there is always a very small percentage, be it 0.5% or 5% that you may induce pregnancy. So in essence, by using contraception you are accepting that there is still that small chance that you'll have to take a bigger responsibility in your hands (I don't know if contraceptive boxes state that or not, because they definitely should put a disclaimer). While I fully understand that sex isn't necessarily for pro-creating and can be had for pleasure, it is still a "risk" you accept, if you want to put it that way, when you indulge in the act.
I personally absolutely believe that a human life is nothing to be playing around with, whether it is in its earliest or latest form of development.
