And yet, they expected over 5 million lifetime sales by March...

Talk about disastrous prediction. One would think that they would learn following the 3DS launch, but the conclusion that they made was seemingly nothing more than, "We forgot to add 2D Mario to the 3DS's launch lineup. This time around we won't make the same mistake, and the launch will surely be highly successful."

Given recent statements about how they need to either release less titles or cooperate with other developers to keep up, added to the fact that very few Wii game have been released these last couple of years (and it gets worse when considering that Skyward Sword's launch was pushed to 2011), I would say that Nintendo failed the transit to HD development. Their team sizes are too small for HD development, except when it comes to games like New Super Mario Bros., Nintendo Land and The Wind Waker with new textures.

At the 3DS launch, Nintendo overrated the DS brand's selling power. This time they overrated New Super Mario Bros.
