Nintendo do not like having the TV screen outside their control. They had to wait until HDTVs were common to adopt it; they had to add 3D and touch to a screen they controlled when really they'd like it on the main screen. It prevents them adding the hardware gimmicks they desire.
The Wii U console is so underpowered and de-emphasised in branding that it might as well be part of the U Pad (and tech will allow this in 1-2 years).
So yes I fully expect this.
