True, but that doesn't seem to be what they're attempting, at least not at the moment. Creating new studios takes time, after all, and the ideal point to get started would have been when they were preparing to launch their new systems. Judging from their financial reports, they HAVE acquired new offices, but those mostly seem to be so they can consolidate their current workforce, not expand it.

Yeah, they clearly missed the boat on that one, but that doesn't mean they can't take that path anymore. It would only start to pay off in the latter half of this generation, but that's still good enough. Have some B-teams still working on the current gen systems while the A-teams are working on next gen games. That should help Nintendo to retain more of their fanbase during the transitional periods, in case third parties have abandoned a system like usual.

From what I've heard they are doing just that in several of their development Studios. NSMB2 was developed by the B-Team for 2D marios while NSMBU was made by the A-Team (they even used that nominclature from what I read) and Zelda has been doing the same in recent years with the main studio working on the main Zelda franchise games (TP, SS, the next one for Wii U) while their B-Team works on things like Redoing Ocarina of Time for the 3DS and now Wind Waker HD remake for Wii U. But I agree with you that this is something they should continue doing and expand on.

I am kinda happy that Intelligent Systems is getting some help with Fire Emblem Wii U (with the SMT crossover with Atlus) because while I LOVE Fire Emblem I also want to see an Advance Wars 3DS (or two) for instance.

I think partnering with certain 3rd Parties (read willing third parties) is a great way for Nintendo to also expand the number of games that can be released on their systems. They make tons and try to get third parties to put their games on their systems but the main complaints usually are 1 "there isn't a market for non-nintendo games on nintendo systems" and/or 2 "there isn't much chance competing against nintendo on nintendo systems" I see this as Nintendo say, "okay we will let you use our IPs to kill those two complaints, now why can't you make money on our systems? (hint: the answer is either a) they can or b) they don't want to.

I'd be interested in other collaborations, we know of Smash Bros and Fire Emblem, could we see Metroid, F-Zero, Donkey Kong, or any number of other IPs given new twists by third parties? Could be interesting, I don't think they would all be 100% Awesome (looking at Metroid Other M, which was not as bad as people portray but was no Prime) but some could be amazing depending on the IP and the Developer that gets to use them.
