It's not an industry standard though. Only Nintendo has done it so far, with mixed results. Going from the Xbox to the 360, MS did not do it. Not 100% anyway. Some games don't work, some do. Some DLC you bought works, some does not. Moot point now because if I went out today and bought a new copy of Crimson Skies, or Halo 2, or MechAssault, or Full Spectrum Warrior, or Pandora Tomorrow, and tried to get the DLC I already bought last generation, I would be **** out of luck. So of the 3, the only who has done it is Nintendo, and most of their titles are just emulated old games anyway.

You like to bring irrelevant markets like mobile and PC into it, but it's not a given in those markets either. Games I bought on an old phone running an older version of Android don't always work. Games I bought on my PC that worked on Windows 98 or XP, don't work the same on Windows 7. etc etc
