It is kind of limited by the userbase at the moment. According to VGC the Wii U has 2.4 million sales and NSMBU has 1.4 million sales. That's almost a 60% attach rate, which is pretty damn good.

Indeed. People act like Super Mario Bros. has lost its appeal, but if it wasn't for that game, the Wii U would be dead in the water. It's pretty much the only non-bundled game that really sells which suggests that this is far and above the main reason why people buy the Wii U.

I do not agree with this at all, mario has lost most of its appeal, you can looks at wiiu sales and compare to other launches, sure they compare  great to systems were sold out/limited in stock but if you look at the bigger picture its selling similer to a dead system called the wii with plenty of stock and no shortage to speak of, the fact that the xbox 1 out sold 2 to 1 in the same time frame in the us is very telling.
