I've read on a few blogs and sites that Steamroller will be AM3+ based while Excavator will be the new platform which adds things like PCIe 3.0 controller, DDR4 support, tripple channel memory and god knows what else. I know it's not official, but rumblings are that AM3+ will get another chip out from AMD.

I don't think so but we'll see.

AMD might not even survive to 2014 given the financials.

Someone needs to explain this mornings AMD's stock market performance to me... After last nights earnings, sense, this makes none.

They beat analyst's expectations. And they plan more layoffs which stock markets always like whether they make sense or not.

It's just that I see no area they could make progress in vs. Intel and return to profit. In 2014 they'll be selling 28nm chips against 14nm. Intel has caught up on graphics with Haswell+silicon interposer judging by the demo vs  a GT650M.
