It amazes me that you folks forget Nintendo's real main franchises.  Games like Wii Sports/Wii Fit, Nintendogs and Brain Age sold WAY more systems for Nintendo, and appeal to a very different audiences than Kirby, DK, Starfox, etc.

Wii U needs something like that.  Not WiiU Fit mind you.  That's been there, done that, old news which won't appeal to anyone now.  They need something fresh.

We were talking about Nintendo's "Core" audience so I didn't mention them. Plus, they are not really long-term franchises. As you said, Wii Fit was huge for the Wii but Wii Fit U probably won't be nearly as big.

I believe Nintendo is definitely working on the Nintendogs, Wii Sorts, Wii Fit, of the Wii U. It will likely use NFC or a new peripheral. If not, it will use the Gamepad in a way that nobody saw coming. Either way, I'm sure Nintendo is working on something.

Nintendo's core audience can't lift their fortunes about a GC level.   If they could, then GC would have been more successful as it was more 'core' than Wii.

They need their expanded audience, but I think the dual analog gamepad is a huge deterient to that very audience which is why NintendoLand is no Wii Sports.
